Ok, here we go… the number one thing that makes your wedding day run off schedule is… The Getting Ready.
This is the most underestimated portion of the day and given it’s the first key part of your wedding day, it tends to set everything in motion to be delayed if off schedule. You legit need about 5 hours to get ready. Yep, you read that correctly… F I V E. And depending on whose getting ready with you, and for what services, that number can easily increase. And to preface, it’s almost always not at the fault of the HUMA team.
Getting Ready includes not only you, but your wedding party, mothers, cousins, friends… anyone you will have getting hair + make-up or other services done, and dressed with you. The more people you have, the more stuff they will bring, as well as the more time you will have various conversations, expel more laughter, build more memories, and witness more goofing around… I think ya get it lol, more of absolutely everything and longer to actually get ready.
Also —how long will it take to get into your dress? Don’t over look this aspect cuz it can easily add on 30 mins+, especially if you have several undergarments or need to bustle anything for photos before the ceremony!
Getting ready can be exhausting. The last thing you want to do is rush around and not enjoy this time with your crew. Things that often are not accounted for… snack breaks, bathroom breaks, standing up just moving/stretching (needed if you have long hair and an up-do), checking-in on your phone for calls/questions, having heartfelt conversations, crying, needing touch-ups, etc.
So, this is why I recommend five hours, cuz you end up needing down time just as much as the getting ready time.
If it is just YOU getting ready and no one else has any services, then you can allot for 3 hours minimum.
One of my couples had everyone in the wedding party arrive to the venue ready — like fully ready to go. And by doing so, it free’d up so much time… making your getting ready more relaxed, and allowing the focus to be just on the you. And with everyone else “photo ready” and looking amazing, they felt more inclined to help get you dressed and be in the photos. It honestly makes it easier for everyone to chill and enjoy the little things… so if this is possible, try to have everyone arrive “ready to go”.
Check-in with your styling team and ask how many stylists they recommend for the services you and your party are having that day. They know what they are doing and have a better understanding of just how much time is needed, and TAKE THEIR WORD. So many times I have arrived to the Getting Ready suite and found one hair stylist and one make-up artist because the couple decided to save money and try to squeeze everyone in with the bare minimum. All this does is stress everyone the F out and make things very delayed. So please, listen to what the stylist is recommending.
Also, make sure to do a trail for both hair and makeup… it really does make things a lot easier day-of and build trust with your styling team.
