Adeline & Samantha wanted to go some where special for their engagement session, and during our consult we discussed several spots but when it came down to it, the stunning Mount Rainier won out. While most hit up the opposite side, we went to the Sunrise area instead so that we could take in all the surrounding beauty during golden hour. At sunset, this side of Mount Rainier is aglow in warmth and wonder. I personally prefer shooting in this area because while yes the mountain as a backdrop is quite breathtaking, it tends to be not as prominent — allowing for my couples love and playful story to be more center stage.
Late summer in Washington can be hit or miss for sessions due to the fires throughout the PNW, and we ended up having to postpone our first session date due to the smoke. The air was so think, little bits of ash were falling and floating around, kinda like snow, and you couldn’t even see the surrounding mountain ranges or Mount Rainier herself. Luckily we had some rain and wind blow thru, giving us a few days of clearer air and allowing our session to commence.
This was a big first for Adeline & Sam, they had not really had professional photos taken yet. This is one of the reasons why I offer complimentary engagement sessions with my wedding packages — so couples have a chance to get in front of the camera prior to wedding day and see how it feels, what the flow is shooting with me, and what they prefer posing wise. As soon as we started shooting, Adeline & Sam realized it was a lot more fun than they anticipated and we had such a beautiful time together on the trails. We even had a black fox (a rare variation of the Cascade Red Fox) show up just along the trail and sit in the sun! We paused shooting and took in this moment for quite some time, just in awe of our luck. The fox dove into some brush, grabbing a little rodent to snack on and went about it’s happy way.
