Sun Mountain Lodge is a beautiful resort located on the cliffs of the Methow Valley by Patterson Lake in Winthrop, Washington. It’s definitely one of my favorite venues in Eastern Washington, the views are just stunning throughout this 3,000+ acre property, with trails and outlooks that you explore all day.
Aside from the gorgeous views, a huge perk to this venue is that guests can stay on-site and fully enjoy the area, visit the shops, and all that Winthrop has to offer. It makes the whole vibe for the wedding day so relaxed and enjoyable.
Lauren and Surafel have an amazing beautiful large family, truly surrounded by so much love and support. From the minute I met them all, I felt like family and that is one one of the best feelings as a photographer. I met up with L+S the day before their wedding, for the rehearsal, and it was lovely to be there for them and walk thru things together — gave such peace of mind.
The next morning was full go-mode, as everyone got ready enjoying the downtime together with plenty of anticipation building. Lauren choose a spot by the back of the lodge for their First Look and Wedding Party portraits, the views were perfect backdrop. The one thing about this location is that it’s very very windy. The bridesmaid’s hair was feeling the brunt of this, but we rolled with it and focused more on having fun together than one’s hair being perfect. Legit nothing we could do about it!
The day before, I walked the grounds and found this windblown tree all alone on a little hill and I knew immediately we had to shoot there. So for their Couples Portraits we ventured a bit finding some trees to tuck them into as the breeze picked-up, making the leaves shimmy… it felt like we were surrounded by lots of gentle applause. Scanning to our next spot, realized the tree branches above us were framing that lone tree from the day before, and I nearly cried, for real. It was perfect.
The rest of the day was wrapped in so much love and celebration, Surafel’s family are amazing dancers and the whole evening on the dance floor was absolutely the biggest celebration. We snuck away for some sunset photos by Patterson Lake, and ended the night at the lone tree for some wide shots. I could go on and on, but I will let these photos do the talking…
