Kitsap Memorial State Park sits along the shores of Hood Canal with sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains, offering a relaxed and forested landscape that requires little embellishment. At the heart of the property, you will find the Heritage Area featuring a collection of rustic structures, including a log hall, covered pavilion, and intimate hospitality house. Unlike traditional venues, the experience here is intentionally un-curated; inviting couples to shape the day from the ground up, bringing in rentals and thoughtful design elements to transform the space into something entirely their own.
Given most of the guests were flying into Seattle for the first time, R+J wanted to give their wedding experience a true feel for the Pacific Northwest, and chose this venue so guests could sit amongst the trees taking in just how majestic they feel. They loved the simplicity of the area too, giving the sense of peace that walking in our forests provide. And the fact that guests were staying in Seattle and talking the Ferry over to the venue together, really made it feel like an adventure.
Mother Nature provided some rain to complete the vibe check, lol. But hey, rain on your wedding day is considered good luck! Being fans of motion blur and black & white images, we had so much fun incorporating and embracing natural movement in their photographs — as well as capturing the ferry ride back to Seattle all together for the after party… who doesn’t want a dance party on the front bow??
Special shout out to my dino bubble blower duo, who keep the bubbles flowin’ for the couple — my rockstars! This wedding is dear to my heart as everyone made me feel like family, on a day I received some heartbreaking personal news… as a photographer that is one of the best gifts that comes with this job.
